Intro to Garbology

You’ve found me, Lindsey Hoshaw, at The Garbage Girl dot com.  As a freelance environmental journalist I write about marine debris, plastic pollution, recycling and innovative ways environmentalists are working to solve the world’s most pressing “green” issues.

Before I head out to the Garbage Patch this September, I’ll be speaking to leaders in the field about their research on plastics and waste. This list ideally includes Curtis Ebbesmeyer, David DeRothschild and William Rathje among others. Rathje was the first to coin the term garbology (one who studies trash as anthropology).

I consider myself a garbologist and perhaps after this summer even a garbagepatchologist? We’ll see if that one takes off…
